Joshua Hall, M.D., Ph.D.
|Hello and thank you for your interest in my practice. A native of Denver, Colorado, I first came to San Diego as a UCSD Muir College undergraduate student. After graduating from UCSD, I went back to Denver and completed my medical (M.D.) degree and a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. I returned to San Diego in 2003 for psychiatric residency training at UCSD. During this training, I gained experience in psychopharmacology as well as individual and group therapy. My care philosophy is to collaborate with my patients to determine what areas of their lives are most troublesome and how these can be addressed and improved.
I have a particular interest in psychiatric aspects of chronic pain management and have performed research on chronic back pain and its treatment. My practice incorporates this interest into general adult and geriatric psychiatric care, including treatment of mood, anxiety, psychotic and substance use disorders. I work with patients in both my outpatient office in Poway as well as patients at Aurora Behavioral Healthcare San Diego, where I serve as the director of the mood intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. I also work part time at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, treating returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
