Who We Are

Joshua M.H. Hall, M.D., Ph.D.

“A native of Denver, Colorado, I first came to San Diego as a UCSD Muir College undergraduate student. After graduating from UCSD, I went back to Denver and completed my medical (M.D.) degree and a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado. I returned to San Diego in 2003 for psychiatric residency training at UCSD. During this training, I gained experience in psychopharmacology as well as individual and group therapy. My care philosophy is to collaborate with my patients to determine what areas of their lives are most troublesome and how these can be addressed and improved.

My practice provides adult psychiatric care, including treatment of mood, anxiety, psychotic and substance use disorders through medication management. I am an expert in the diagnosis and pharmacological management of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and have extensive experience treating depression, bipolar, anxiety and ADHD. I have worked with patients in my office in Poway since 2007. I have been an attending at Aurora Behavioral Healthcare San Diego since 2007, and I am currently its Chief of Staff. I also work part time at VA San Diego, treating veterans suffering from PTSD.”

Michael M. Takamura, M.D.

“Dr. Michael Takamura earned his BA in Neuroscience from Harvard College in 1997 with honors. He then attended UC San Diego for medical school, followed by a psychiatry residency at UC San Diego as well. He subspecialized in forensic psychiatry, after doing a fellowship in forensics at University of Southern California.

Dr. Takamura is a double boarded Adult and Forensic psychiatrist. His practice mainly consists of medicolegal cases, such as QME/AME evaluations, as well as certain IME and federal SECOP examinations. When he is not at the private practice office in Poway, Dr. Takamura covers San Diego inpatient psychiatric units at both Aurora Behavioral Health and at Sharp Mesa Vista hospitals, where he serves as the clinical medical director of both Psych ICU units.

Lastly, Dr. Takamura has worked part-time at the County of San Diego in the Forensic Examination Unit (based out of the Hall of Justice, 4th floor) since 2010, where he performs criminal forensic examinations for the San Diego Superior Court.”
